Common Sense on ...Campaign financing
I am dismayed to find a cynicism abroad in America that declares all politicians liars, and appears to embrace those who lie most often and most destructively. All politicians do not lie. All politicians do not prostitute themselves. Granted: There have been but a few senators in recent years, as well as perhaps two dozen congressmen and -women all told, and a handful of governors, who have honestly and faithfully served the interests of their constituents. And zero presidents. Ah, but take a look into local politics, and behold a different world. Suddenly, we find honesty, and not corruption, is the rule. Suddenly, we find men and women elected by people who know them from their deeds and not their TV commercials. And behold! Vive la différence. Wherein lies the critical difference? In the seduction of campaigning, as any candidate must to stand a chance of election to any major national or statewide office, for dollars rather than votes.
