Join the Solidarity Alliance
To begin, you should of course know what the benefits and responsibilities of membership are. As it now stands (May 10, 2004), the Alliance is very small and spread very wide: We have just over 50 members, all recruited by me personally, and they reside on five continents, although most are U.S. citizens. Therefore, I can hardly claim that there are benefits to joining, in any material sense, at least; we simply haven't the resources to offer lots of inducements. But then, we're hardly a commercial enterprise. We are a loose association of eclectic and thoughtful individuals collaborating in what promises to be an enormously difficult long-term undertaking. Ultimately, then, I would have to say that the benefits and the responsibilities are for now one and the same. In short, as an Alliance member, you will be among the founders of an association dedicated to restoring common sense, democratic principles and empathy to our societies. Eventually, you will be part of the core of the Unity Party, the political engine that we hope will help ordinary citizens regain the ultimate sovereignty that is theirs by right. This means that, once we actually establish and activate SolidarityAlliance.com, you will be given password access to a private chat channel set aside for members, in addition to being pre-registered as members of the site's forum. And that in turn means that you will be privy to all that the Alliance does or plans, and will have a vote in electing its officers. And what will we expect of you? Actually, not much at first ... and how much is always up to you. Currently, we're going into an active recruitment phase, so the first thing we ask is that you let your friends know about us. You don't actually need to sell them on the idea if you'd rather not; just invite them to read our pages. As the Alliance grows and, it's to be hoped, takes in enough donations to take part in the money-devouring world of political campaigning new activities will arise: everything from circulating petitions to get our candidates (and eventually our party) on the ballot to helping plan campaign strategy and tactics. When this happens, we will make sure to notify everyone, and you will have the choice in each case to participate or not, and nonparticipation will not reflect on your membership status. Of course, before you do any of this, you will in fact need to join. And that requires that you supply us with enough information to confirm that you are who you say you are, and to reach you if need be. Webmaster's Note:Any inconvenience is my fault: I don't yet know how to design the form that will eventually appear when you click on the button that doesn't yet exist immediately below. Meanwhile, I will ask that you send me an e-mail in which the body text contains: As mentioned above, we routinely maintain contact via e-mail, so it's important that you keep that information current. If e-mail does not work for you, or is not sufficiently reliable in reaching you within a few days, please supply and update some other method of getting word to you; it doesn't matter what the method is, as long as there is one. If, for any reason, you think you will allow contact to lapse for any significant period, please apprise us of that as well.* Additionally, you are invited and encouraged to offer specific services to the Alliance, depending on your area of expertise, in the body of your e-mail beneath the information requested above. Meanwhile, I will try to develop a form in one of my upcoming further site updates. Just one more thing to learn how to do on what seems an endless list of them. What's that you say? Delegate? OK, two more. *If communication isn't your forte, and we may or may not actually succeed in getting in touch with you at any given time, this is probably not the organization for you.
